6/30/11 - Closing ceremony for Lansing Fire Station 5
On July 1, 2011, the Lansing Fire Department disbanded 2 engine companies, 2 truck companies, 1 battalion chief, 1 medic unit and closed 2 stations. Station 5, located on Todd St near Mt Hope Rd, was one of those to close. Engine 5 has been protecting "midtown" Lansing since 1913, and has run out of the Todd St location since February of 1956. Over the years this station has also been quarters for Squad 2, Light Truck 2, Rescue 5, Ambulance 45, Engine 43 and Safety 45. On the evening of June 30, a few people stood to observe as the Lansing Fire Department Honor Guard performed a final flag lowering ceremony to honor the station's years of service. Both Engine 45 and Medic 45 were disbanded.
