6/30/10 - Closing ceremonies for Lansing Fire Station 3
After 104 years of service to the City of Lansing, Michigan, the Lansing Fire Department permanently closed Fire Station 3 and disbanded Engine 43 on Thursday, July 1st, 2010. Fire Station 3 was first opened in February, 1906. In 1953, the original station was torn down and a new one built at the same location. For most of it's life span, Station 3 was staffed by an engine and ladder company. In the early 1990's it was reduced to a single engine house. It has also served as the original quarters for the haz mat team and temporary quarters for medic units. On June 30th, during it's last day as an active fire station, several personnel gathered for photographs during the day and a final flag lowering ceremony at dusk.
