09/1978 - Meridian Twp extrication, Grand River & Campus Hill
In September, 1978, the Meridian Township Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Grand River Ave & Campus Hill Dr. A car pulling out of Campus Hill Dr sideswiped a westbound sedan which lost control, skidding into the eastbound lanes resulting in a hard impact broadside collision. Several patients had serious injuries and two patients required extrication. At that time, Meridian Fire did not have modern extrication equipment, extrication for this area was handled by Ingham Co Sheriff Heavy Rescue. Heavy Rescue arrived and quickly extricated the passenger from the Chevette, the driver was also trapped but was killed on impact. Two patients were transported by Meridian Township Ambulance. When police were ready, the driver was extricated and removed from the scene by Lansing Mercy Ambulance.
