6/28/09 - Delhi Twp water rescue, Cedar Lake
On this warm Sunday evening, a group of people were swimming in the old gravel pits along Cedar St, now known as Cedar Lake. Just before 7 PM, one person started having difficulty while trying to cross the width of the lake and went under. When he didnt resurface his friends went for help. Crews from the Delhi Township Fire Department and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office began initial efforts to locate the individual as firefighters used two private boats deployed from a nearby dive shop. Shortly afterward members of the Ingham County Sheriff's Dive Team and the Lansing Police Department Dive Team launched a boat and attempted to locate the victim with divers. Sparrow Hospital's Lifenet helicopter was requested and responded to attempt to locate from overhead. When over an hour of rescue efforts had passed, the operation was changed to recovery mode. Efforts to locate the victim were suspended until the next morning as darkness fell. The victim was located and removed the following day.
