12/24/09 - Mason house fire, 800 Rolfe Rd
The Mason Fire Department has developed a tradition over the last few years of having working structure fires on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day. This year was no exception when Mason firefighters responded to this fire on Christmas Eve morning. Firefighters received a call from neighbors reporting this house on fire. When they arrived they were met with heavy smoke from a two story concrete block home. First arriving crews attempted an interior attack from the "A" and "D" sides but were ordered out due to structural conditions and fire load. Mutual aid was requested from the Leslie Fire Department and the Dansville Fire Department. Firefighters extinguished the blaze from an exterior attack. The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) was requested to send a transit bus to the scene for rehab & warming. A dog was rescued from the home during overhaul operations and appeared to be relatively unharmed. Investigation into this fire ruled it to be accidental in nature and completely unrelated to a house fire 1/4 mile away only 1 week prior.
