4/7/08 - Rives-Tompkins Twp field fire, 10827 Churchill

On Monday, April 7, 2008, another grass fire started behind a house on Churchill Rd. The Rives-Tompkins Township Fire Department responded and found that this wind driven fire had quickly spread into a wooded area behind the home and a corn stubble field next to it. Due to difficulty accessing the fire in the wooded area and the speed which it was spreading, the attack moved to protect homes and property down wind off Perrine Rd. This was manpower intensive as firefighters gained access on foot and spent considerable time extinguishing the fire in the woods. Mutual aid was requested from Henrietta Township, Leslie and Onondaga fire departments for manpower, engines and grass rigs.
