4/17/07 - Onondaga house fire, 4826 Ferris Rd
Just after 10 AM on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, the Onondaga Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 4826 Ferris Rd in rural Onondaga Township. Being a volunteer department faced with a weekday fire during business hours, command requested mutual aid early for assistance with handling this fire. A black smoke plume was visible from several miles away as additional firefighters responded from the Eaton Rapids Township, Hamlin Township, Leslie and Mason fire departments. Firefighters arrived to find a fully engulfed garage attached to a one story ranch style home. The fire was eating into the home itself when firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to stop the advancement. As more manpower arrived, additional crews entered to complete interior overhaul as well as complete extinguishment of what remained of the garage.
