4/16/07 - Lansing house fire, 6250 Gardenia
On Monday, April 16, 2007, just before 7 AM, the Lansing Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 6250 Gardenia. On arrival a working fire in the basement of a two story wood frame home was discovered. There was a delay in calling in the alarm and access to the fire was difficult due to construction and contents. Firefighters made attempts to get to the fire both from the interior and the exterior, but the flames continued to gain hold of the structure through voids until it was involving all floors and the roof. Command requested extra engines to respond and eventually a deck gun was deployed to knock down the stubborn blaze, later an aerial was put into play for overhaul. Firefighters had to deal with a long hose lay for a supply line down a narrow dead end street which hampered access for additional responding crews. Several firefighters received minor injuries during this battle and were transported from the scene by fire department ambulances.
