4/5/05 - Mason field fire, 3928 Barnes Rd
On Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at 12:40 PM, the Mason Fire Department responded to a call of a rubbish pile burning at 3928 Barnes Rd. Upon arrival, firefighters found this fire extending into a large open area of dry grass with strong winds feeding the flames. Engine 809 arrived and a preconnect hoseline was pulled to extinguish the rubbish pile, while Brush 810 began an attack on the grass fire. Winds spread the flames quicker than on scene crews could contain the blaze and many acres of wildland became involved. Mutual aid was received from the Onondaga, Dansville and Hamlin Township fire departments.
