4/30/22 - Rives-Tompkins Twp 4-alarm fire, 6048 Rives-Eaton Rd
At about 10:20 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2022, the Rives-Tompkins Fire Department was dispatched with automatic aid to a barn fire at 6048 Rives-Eaton Rd. Dispatch updated responders with information that this was now several barns on fire. A heavy plume of smoke was visible from a distance, and command requested a 2nd alarm before arrival. The first units to arrive reported several barns fully engulfed, with exposures to a house and more outbuildings. A large propane tank was located in the seat of the fire near the house and was venting from the heat. The "C" side of the fire had power lines down alongside one of the burning buildings.
Shortly after command arrived, a 3rd alarm was requested. A few minutes later command requested a 4th alarm. Hose lines were deployed to protect the home first, then as additional personnel and apparatus arrived the attack on the fire was expanded. Fire departments from 3 counties worked together in a defensive attack and the fire was held to the structures involved on arrival. Once the fire was knocked down, Jackson's Ladder 1 was moved up to hit hot spots with their aerial. An excavator was called in to move debris so that all pockets of fire could be extinguished. One firefighter was treated at the scene by Jackson Community Ambulance personnel for a minor injury. Personnel were on scene for several hours making sure all of the buildings burned were completely out.
