1/4/22 - Delhi Twp mobile home fire, 5105 Amsterdam
On Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 3:09 PM, the Delhi Twp, Lansing, Mason, and Windsor Twp fire departments were dispatched to a mobile home fire with people trapped at 5105 Amsterdam in Delhi Township. The caller stated they could hear fire in a wall and there was a person unable to exit the structure. Command arrived to heavy smoke showing from the rear of the home and 2 people still inside. The first engine was assigned rescue, to assist the 2 people out the front door, one person had received burn injuries. Fire attack was initiated in the structure which was originally a single wide mobile home, but had additions added on to it making it a double wide, double long, mobile home. The structure contained a heavy fire load, with materials for a wood shop in the back addition. Firefighters had difficulty getting to the seat of the fire. When flames broke through the roof, command changed the tactics to defensive. Past experience has shown that the hydrant system in the trailer park is not sufficient to supply a working firefight, so tankers were utilized for water supply. Mason and Windsor tankers responded on the initial alarm, additional tankers were called from Benton Twp, Eaton Rapids, Eaton Rapids Twp, and Hamlin Twp. Firefighters were having difficulty reaching all parts of the fire from defensive positions, so an aerial ladder was requested from Lansing to help complete extinguishment from an elevated position.
