12/12/21 - Rives-Tompkins Twp house fire, 6895 Grand River Rd

On Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 2:45 PM, the Rives-Tompkins Twp fire department was dispatched, along with automatic aid, to a structure fire at 6895 Grand River Rd. The first arriving units found a fully engulfed large garage attached to a home. The fire had already breached the back wall of the home and was working its way into the house and through the attic. Additional exposures included vehicles parked outside the "C" side of the garage which were also becoming involved. A 2nd alarm was requested shortly after arrival, followed by a 3rd alarm a few minutes later. Firefighters took a defensive attack on the fire, including the home, due to structural compromise and signs of collapse already visible inside. After several hours of trying to put out all of the fire inside the home, excavation equipment was called in to tear down the structure to complete extinguishment. The Rives-Tompkins Twp Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from the Blackman-Leoni, Hamlin Twp, Henrietta Twp, Leslie, Onondaga, Parma-Sandstone, and Springport-Clarence fire departments. Jackson Community Ambulance and J-Dart were called for EMS standby and rehab.
