10/14/21 - Lansing Twp commercial building fire, 3004 W. Main St

At 4:24 AM on Thursday, October 14, 2021, the Lansing Township Fire Department was alerted to a fire that would prove to be stubborn and not give up until a local business was completely destroyed. A passerby reported smoke coming from The Dispatch Lounge at 3004 W. Main St. Simultaneously, an ambulance from the Lansing Fire Department was passing by on the way to a medical call and confirmed there were flames and smoke visible. The Delta Township Fire Department was dispatched on automatic aid, and the Lansing Fire Department was requested by command for additional assistance. An interior attack was initiated when firefighters arrived, but the fire showed it wasn't giving up easy. Personnel were forced to withdraw to an exterior attack as the flames continued to eat through hidden spaces and vent through the roof. Aerials, master streams, and handlines were deployed to try to stop the progress of the flames. Excavation equipment was later requested to the scene to open access to the hidden fire. The flames evaded firefighters for almost 8 hours before it was declared under control. Personnel continued to work well into the remainder of the day extinguishing hot spots. 1 firefighter was transported by EMS for non-life threatening injuries.
