2/21/20 - Onondaga house fire, 4322 S Onondaga Rd
Just after 9:30 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020, the Onondaga Fire Department responded to a house fire at 4322 S. Onondaga Rd. The Leslie and Henrietta fire departments were also dispatched on automatic aid when a resident called to report smoke coming from the roof, possibly from a chimney fire they put out themselves earlier in the evening. The first units arriving found heavy smoke pushing from the roof of a 2 story ranch home. Additional mutual aid was requested for a full assist from Mason and Eaton Rapids. Shortly after arrival, fire broke through the roof in the area of the chimney. The home was set back a distance from the road. Command directed the first engine and truck companies to come up to the house, the second engine to stay at the street and set up a Porta-tank to pump to the ladder which laid 1000 feet of LDH down the driveway when they came in. Firefighters initiated an exterior attack as the fire took hold of the attack space. Leslie Ladder 749 was set up to finish off the visible flames that could not be reached by hand lines and the deck gun from Onondaga's engine. Tankers responded from 11 departments to provide water for the master streams. Once the exterior attack had brought the visible fire under control, crews entered the home to complete extinguishment and overhaul.
