11/7/20 - Williamston wildland fire, 91 Waldo Rd
Unnoticed by the residents, a fire started in a small shed at 91 Waldo Rd and was spreading into a wooded area on Saturday, November 7, 2020. A passerby reported the fire at 3 PM as a barn and grass fire. Since NIESA was already working another field fire, mutual aid was requested for Dansville and Mason to cover the call. First arriving command reported the "barn" involved was a small shed which had already been completely consumed. Fire had extended to leaves and grass and was burning toward other outbuildings on the property. An additional grass rig was requested from the Delhi Township Fire Department. An engine from Dansville was first to arrive and pulled preconnect lines to start extinguishing the flames. Mason's grass rig proceeded off the driveway and positioned to protect outbuildings. The fire was now burning against the wind into a wooded area accessible by foot. Firefighters walked the fire line stopping the flames by hand, then wet down and overhauled the area which contained a quantity of dead wood that needed to be worked for hot spots.
