3/16/18 - Rives-Tompkins Twp barn fire, 8330 Churchill Rd
At 4:11 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018, the Rives-Tompkins Twp Fire Department was dispatched for a barn fire at 8330 Churchill Rd. Dispatch was requested to update the call to a 1st alarm which also dispatched the Henrietta Twp Fire Department. First units to arrive reported a barn well involved with heavy smoke & fire showing. Mutual aid tankers and manpower were requested from Blackman Twp Public Safety, Leslie Fire and Onondaga Fire. As initial hose lines were put into play and water supply was established, personnel assisted the homeowner with removing several vehicles from inside and around the barn. Firefighters used a defensive strategy to extinguish the blaze. As the fire progressed through the barn, which was finished inside with an upper apartment, Onondaga responded with their Tele-Squrt and Parma-Sandstone was requested for an additional tanker. Command also requested JDart respond for rehab. Once the roof of the structure collapsed, personnel were able to reach the seat of the fire to complete extinguishment. Additional calls went out for fresh crews to assist with major overhaul. One firefighter was assessed on scene by EMS after grounding an overcharged handline. There were no other injuries.
