7/8/17 - Lansing warehouse fire, 1314 S. Washington
At 10:39 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2017, the Lansing Fire Department was dispatched to reports from passerbys of a warehouse fire at 1314 S. Washington. Engines 41, 44, 48 & 49, Trucks 41 & 44, Medic 49 and Battalion 41 responded on the initial call. When police confirmed a working fire, Battalion 41 requested an additional engine, truck and BC to the scene, bringing Engine 46, Lansing Twp Truck 52 and East Lansing Battalion 11. On arrival, heavy fire was visible from the first floor "A" side of a two story brick commercial structure. An exposure attached to the "B" side of the building contained apartments which needed to be evacuated. Command advised intial attack would be defensive. Engine 41 & Truck 41 began forcible entry thru the front door and glass block windows to deploy a 2-1/2 handline. Truck 44 was directed to set up and open up the 2nd floor which had it's windows boarded up. Once access was gained, firefighters were able to quickly knock down the visible fire. Access was made to the rest of the warehouse to check for extension and extinguishment. Medic 49 set up a rehab area and command requested an additional ambulance to assist them, bringing in mutual aid from Delhi Township. Extensive overhaul and ventilation efforts were required before firefighters could clear the scene.
