12/20/15 - Mason house fire, 1661 Tuttle Rd
At 7:39 AM on Sunday morning, December 20, 2015, a MABAS box alarm, for the Mason, Delhi Twp and Leslie fire departments, was dispatched for a chimney fire at 1661 Tuttle Rd. First arriving command from the Mason Fire Department reported fire through the roof of a one story ranch home, an additional tanker was requested from the Onondaga Fire Department. All occupants of the home had safely evacuated and were gathered by the street when firefighters arrived. Mason Engine 809 pulled into the driveway to deploy their preconnects while Mason Tanker 811 followed them in for water supply. Firefighters knocked down the visible fire from the outside before entering the home to attack from the interior. The main body of the fire was in the attic and a wall between the home & the garage. Firefighters pulled ceilings and opened up the wall to quickly extinguish the fire. A porta-tank was set up at the street and filled, with tankers standing by, but only the water from Tanker 811 was used. Crews worked for hours to protect and remove personal belongings inside the home while a large quantity of blown in insulation was removed to prevent reignition. There were no injuries.
