1/18/15 - Lansing 2nd alarm apartment fire, 200 Friendship Cr
The Lansing Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the 6th floor of an apartment building at 200 Friendship Cr just after 8:15 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2015. An automatic fire alarm assignment was upgraded to a structure assignment when responding apparatus reported visual signs of a fire while en route. Command requested a 2nd alarm which assigned the rest of the fire companies in the city as well as a full mutual aid response from the East Lansing Fire Department. Later into the incident command requested an additional engine company from the Lansing Twp Fire Department to respond to staging. Firefighters quickly knocked down the apartment fire once they accessed it, and resources were diverted to searching the primary floor for victims and evacuating residents. CATA was requested to respond with buses to provide temporary shelter for residents and they responded with 4 city buses to aid them as well as 1 for a firefighter rehab area. The Red Cross was also asked to respond to assist displaced occupants. Lansing's EOC office was activated and made arrangements to move the residents to the Lansing Center as a staging area until housing arrangements could be finalized. The fire was contained to one apartment on the top floor, the occupant of that apartment was rescued from the apartment but died at a local hospital. Investigators believe the origin to have been electrical.
