5/10/14 - Meridian Twp apartment fire, 1655 Lake Dr

Just after 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2014, the Meridian Township Fire Department was dispatched to a neighbor's report of an apartment fire at 1655 Lake Dr. When the first engine and command officer arrived, heavy fire was pushing from an apartment on the 3rd floor of a 3 story multi unit apartment building. A quick attack was performed from the outside to knock down the visible fire as an interior crew prepared for entry and the 2nd arriving engine secured a water supply. Mutual aid was requested from the East Lansing Fire Department to respond an engine & truck company, and later requested for their air trailer. The fire had started extending into the attic space above the involved apartment, but crews made access from the interior & exterior of the building to stop that extension and prevent the building from being a total loss. Firefighters had the fire under control within a half hour from the time of call, and it was declared completely out a short time later.
