3/16/14 - Lansing house fire, 728 N. Walnut St
Lansing firefighters responded to a house fire in the late evening of Sunday, March 16, 2014. When called to the home at 728 N. Walnut around 10:20 PM, personnel arrived to a two story wood frame home with fire showing from a first floor window. First due crews attempted to make entry but were not able to advance lines into the home due to the hoarding conditions they encountered inside. After attempting to knock down the fire from the front door, crews had to retreat when fire was advancing into the second floor above them. Defensive tactics were then used in an all night effort to extinguish the blaze. Command requested Box 23 volunteers and a CATA bus for rehab and a warming station to help firefighters work in the bitter cold and below zero wind chills. Engines 41, 42 & 48, Trucks 41 & 49, and Battalion 41 made the initial alarm. The rest of the apparatus in the city, Engines 44, 46 & 49 were called in later to provide relief crews.
