2/2/14 - Onondaga pole barn fire, 5081 Ferris Rd
At 3:50 AM on Sunday, February 2, 2014, the Onondaga Fire Department responded to a pole barn fire in front of 5081 Ferris Rd. Dispatch information was that the pole barn was nearly collapsed at the time of call and had livestock in it. Seeing a large glow in the sky from a couple miles out, command requested additional tankers from the Mason and Eaton Rapids Township fire departments before they arrived on scene. On arrival, command reported a completely involved pole barn with no close exposures. The first arriving apparatus pulled a supply line to stretch to the street and a 2-1/2 inch attack line to begin extinguishment. When tankers had arrived for water supply, their aerial was used to quickly knock down the fire from overhead. Several calves & chickens were reportedly killed in the blaze, no firefighters were injured.
