7/30/13 - Lansing commercial building fire, 5937 S. M.L.King
At 6:30 in the morning on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, the Lansing Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 5937 S. M.L.King Blvd. Engine 44, 46, 49, Truck 41, 49, Medic 46 and Battalion 41 were dispatched minutes later. First arriving Engine 46 reported smoke coming from the roof of the structure, that they will be making entry and they have their own hydrant out front. When the battalion chief arrived, he requested an additional engine to assist, bringing Engine 41 to the scene. Truck 49 began vertical ventilation as interior crews reported they had gained entry and knocked down the fire. Extensive overhaul of the roof was required after hot spots were detected with a thermal imaging camera. There were no injuries from the fire, the cause of which was investigated by the Fire Marshal's office.
