8/30/12 - Onondaga field fire, 2600 block of S. Onondaga Rd
Embers stirred up from a previous fire combined with a strong wind worked together to start a field on fire in the 2600 block of S. Onondaga Rd. on Thursday, August 30, 2012. The Onondaga Fire Department was dispatched at 2:25 PM. Within minutes command was requesting mutual aid from neighboring departments as the fire was being pushed through tall grass and brush. The Leslie Fire Department was requested to assist with 2 grass rigs, the Eaton Rapids Township Fire Department was requested for 1, and the Mason Fire Department was requested to respond with a tanker. A total of 5 grass rigs worked the field while Onondaga Tanker 1262 took a position along the road to stop the fire as it approached and refill the off road vehicles as they came out.
