5/30/12 - Rives-Tompkins Twp extrication, Base Line Rd & US-127
On Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at approximately 7:25 AM, emergency services from 2 counties responded to reports that both counties were receiving of an injury accident off US-127 at Base Line Rd. A car traveling northbound on US-127 drifted through the median, crossed both southbound lanes and went down an embankment off the west side of the highway before striking several trees just a few feet from crossing the county line. Rives-Tompkins Fire Rescue responded from the highway itself while the Leslie Fire Department and Ingham County Sheriff Rescue were directed to come in off Base Line Rd. Lansing-Mason Ambulance Service personnel requested a helicopter for the one patient involved that was still trapped in his car. Leslie command requested assistance from the Onondaga Fire Department to assist with traffic control and setting up a landing zone. A door removal was quickly performed by Leslie firefighters to extricate the critically injured patient who was then moved up to the highway for transfer to the Lifenet Helicopter. Both directions of traffic on US-127 were shut down for the helicopter to land on the highway.
