1/30/11 - Lansing commercial building fire, 1026 W. Saginaw
The Lansing Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd. & Saginaw St. at 8:57 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2011. Dispatch info reported smoke from the building with police on scene confirming. Command requested an extra engine company be sent while still responding. Engine 47 arrived shortly afterward and reported a fire in a 20x40 commercial building. A preconnect 1-3/4 inch line was pulled but due to mechanical problems, Engine 47 was unable to pump. Engine 41 arrived and connected to a hydrant across Saginaw St, with Engine 47's difficulty, they took their own water supply and then pulled a preconnect for entry. Truck 41 set up at the rear of the structure by order of command and began vertical ventilation. Engine 42, Engine 48 and Truck 48 supplied manpower and RIT. Once entry was gained into the business, the fire was quickly extinguished. Minimal amounts of overhaul were needed and most rigs were back in service in just over a half hour.
