10/28/11 - Lansing apartment building fire, 108 S. Hosmer St
The Lansing Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a vacant apartment building at 108 S. Hosmer St. a little after 11:30 PM on Friday, October 28, 2011. A fire department ambulance returning to quarters from a call discovered smoke in the area and investigated until they discovered the fire in the 3-1/2 story apartment building. The initial response of 3 engines, 2 trucks and a chief went to work but had difficulty gaining access to the fire which was visible from the "C" side of the building. When fire was gaining a strong hold on the top floor the battalion chief ordered all personnel out and an exterior attack was initiated. An extra engine company was requested but released a short time later, Three hydrants were used to supply the fire fight using 2 aerials and several handlines for several hours. Investigators believe the fire was not intentionally set.
