4/30/10 - Mason mobile home fire, 78 Hawthorne Ln
Friday, April 30, 2010, only a couple minutes before Mason Fire Department personnel were going to begin a live fire training session, personnel received a dispatch for a mobile home fire in town. Several pieces of equipment were mobilized quickly with the firefighters that were already at the station and response time was short. Firefighters found a mobile home with heavy smoke showing throughout, fire was visible on the "D" side of the structure. Engine 809, first in, brought it's own water supply from a hydrant on the corner, this was supplemented by Tanker 811 who was following closely behind. Firefighters stretched one preconnect to knockdown the exterior fire, while two more preconnects were pulled to make entry. Interior crews found very little visible fire as it appears to have spread up the outside of the mobile home into the void space between the ceiling and the roof. Command pulled crews out as smoke conditions worsened and the roof showed signs of weakening. The gable ends were opened up and the fire in the void was knocked down before crews reentered to complete extinguishment and overhaul. Assistance was received from the Leslie Fire Department with personnel that were going to participate in the training exercise, Lansing-Mason Ambulance for EMS standby, and the Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad for their air cascade system.
