10/27/09 - Mason water rescue, Columbia Lake
Two men were fishing in Columbia Lake, which is surrounded by a new residential development. Around dusk the boat capsized and both occupants, who were not wearing flotation devices, went into the water. Neighbors reported seeing the men in distress and multiple agencies were immediately dispatched. The Mason Fire Department attempted to locate the individuals using a resident's boat and the Delhi Township Fire Department was requested to respond with their new rescue boat. The Lansing Metro dive team, consisting of personnel from the Ingham County Sheriff's Office and the Lansing Police Department, responded as well. Attempts to locate the victims from the surface were unsuccessful, it wasnt until dive team personnel entered the water that one of the victims was quickly located. Unfortunately too much time had passed and this was now a recovery operation. One man was removed from the water that evening, the second was located and removed the next day.
