8/13/08 - Delta Twp apartment building fire, 429 N. Waverly

Late Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2008, Delta Township firefighters responded to an apartment building fire at 429 N. Waverly. The heavy black smoke plume from this fire was visible from over 15 miles away. Automatic mutual aid responded from the Lansing Township Fire Department with additional mutual aid requested from the Looking Glass Fire Department and the Lansing Fire Department. Two hydrants were used for water supply, the draw on the hydrant along Waverly Rd caused a water main break that flooded the street and local residential yards. The roof of this building was completely destroyed during the fire. Lansing Fire Department also sent a fire inspector to assist in the investigation of cause & origin.
