7/1/19 - Mason basement fire, 111 Mason St
At approximately 3:25 PM on Monday, July 1, 2019, the Mason Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Mason Depot Restaurant at 111 Mason St. The Dansville and Delhi Township fire departments were dispatched also on automatic aid. First arriving command found an old train depot converted into a restaurant with heavy smoke issuing from all sides of the building. The restaurant closes after the lunch hour so their were no customers in the building. All employees had evacuated prior to FD arrival and reported there was a fire in the basement. An aggressive interior attack was initiated. Rehab became a major concern due to the high ambient heat and humidity. Crews were rotated through assignments on shorter time spans with mandatory rest and evaluation in a rehab station after each assignment. Additional mutual aid was requested for manpower from the Meridian Township, Leslie, and Onondaga fire departments. CATA was requested to bring a bus out for personnel to cool off. The fire was contained to the area of origin after several hours of extinguishment and overhaul. There were no serious injuries.
