6/4/18 - Mason house fire, 4662 Barnes Rd

At 11:00 PM on Monday, June 4, 2018, the Mason Fire Department received a call of a back porch on fire at 4662 Barnes Rd in Aurelius Township. Automatic aid was also dispatched from the Onondaga, Eaton Rapids, and Eaton Rapids Township Fire Departments. Personnel began arriving as the house was being completely taken over by the fire. Command advised they were taking a defensive strategy. Live powerlines were down close to the house near the C-D corner. Firefighters battled the flames and searched for hidden fire from the outside until conditions improved enough to allow entry for final overhaul. Thunderstorms sweeping through the area added risk to the outdoor operations. The residents of the home safely evacuated the home prior to FD arrival.
