4/15/18 - Jackson house fire, 119 W. Mansion
In the midst of a day long freezing rain, the Jackson Fire Department was called to respond to an attic fire at 119 W. Mansion on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Automatic aid was also dispatched from the Summit Township Fire Department. When the call came in at 11:24 AM, both apparatus from Jackson were standing by downed wires and had to secure their area before responding. Summit Ladder 18 was delayed when they came upon an car crash with injuries while en route, so Engine 19 was dispatched to respond. Jackson Engine 3 reported smoke showing on arrival and requested Ladder 1 to bring in a hydrant on their arrival. When Ladder 1 arrived, a 2nd alarm was requested which brought an engine, MFR unit and two personnel from the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety. An aggressive interior attack was launched, firefighters had the difficult task of accessing multiple ceilings and walls attempting to find hidden fire which was still advancing as they worked. Eventually, command pulled all personnel out and went to a defensive attack. A 3rd alarm was requested which brought an aerial and manpower from Spring Arbor. After knocking down the fire from the outside, crews entered again to complete extensive overhaul. There were no injuries.
