12/24/18 - Eaton Rapids building fire, 400 Dexter St

At 12:21 PM on Christmas Eve, the Eaton Rapids, Eaton Rapids Township, and Hamlin Township fire departments were dispatched to a building fire at the former Northwest Elementary School, 400 Dexter St. Command reported smoke showing from a working fire in the north wing of the building. First arriving Eaton Rapids Engine 511 pulled their preconnects and entered the building for fire attack, next in Eaton Rapids Township Engine 1212 connected to the hydrant and brought a water supply to 511. The three departments worked together to quickly extinguish the fire inside a kitchen area, check for extension, and ventilate the building of the heavy smoke conditions.
