10/2/18 - Onondaga pole barn fire, 4950 Kinneville
At 3:38 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, the Onondaga, Leslie, and Rives-Tompkins fire departments were dispatched to a barn fire at 4950 Kinneville Rd. The caller reported something in the barn was burning with a lot of black smoke showing. Responding command observed a large plume of smoke from a distance and requested the Mason and Hamlin fire departments be dispatched on mutual aid as well. First arriving units found a 100% involved pole barn that was mostly on the ground already. Command initiated a defensive attack, a nearby house exposure had already cooled so the first priority was protecting the home's propane tank only a few feet from the burning structure. Mutual aid from Rives-Tompkins & Hamlin were cancelled and responding units other than Onondaga were downgraded to non emergency response. Once the remaining flames were knocked down, crews completed overhaul to complete extinguishment. Lansing Mason Area Ambulance was requested to check on a resident that was home at the time of the fire, but no injuries occured.
