7/3/17 - Jackson house fire, 313 Bates St
At 7:35 PM on Monday, July 3, 2017, the Jackson and Summit Twp fire departments were dispatched to a house fire reported by neighbors at 313 Bates St in Jackson. Both departments responded from the scene of a vehicle crash that they were working together. On arrival, Jackson Engine 3 reported a 2 story house with heavy smoke from the 2nd floor. Jackson Ladder 1 arrived and took over command as crews prepared for an interior attack. Command requested all-call tones for off duty callback personnel from both Jackson & Summit, then requested a 2nd alarm which brought in crews from Blackman-Leoni Twp and Henrietta Twp. The fire showed signs of gaining headway in the attic, firefighters made repeated attempts to locate and extinguish the fire from inside. As flames broke through the roof command called all crews out and the attack strategy switched to defensive until the visible fire was knocked down. Firefighters then performed extensive overhaul to complete extinguishment of all hidden flames. 3 dogs were rescued from inside the home during the battle. There were no injuries.
