6/13/17 - Lansing house fire, 902 E. Kalamazoo
At approximately 1 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, a Lansing Fire Department medic unit on the road reported heavy black smoke coming from the area of Kalamazoo & Pennsylvania. Dispatch reported they were receiving reports of a house fire in that area. Engine 44, also on the road in the area, advised they were responding and arrived within a minute of the call. On arrival they found a two story home with heavy fire working up the back of the house. Initial reports were that occupants were still evacuating from the residence. Firefighters intially attacked the fire from the exterior at the back of the house as additional crews entered for search and interior fire attack. At one point all personnel were ordered from the building due to signs of the 2nd floor getting weak. The fire was quickly brought under control. No fire personnel were injured, however one early arriving police officer was treated for smoke inhalation.
