3/8/17 - Wind storm grass fires
During the day on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, the entire Mid-Michigan area was experiencing high wind conditions with wind gusts reported up to 60 MPH. There were multiple issues of trees down on power lines, many of which remained live while laying on the ground causing wind blown grass fires. Jurisdictional boundaries did not apply as fires were coming in so quickly at times that rigs would clear one fire to respond to another. Nearly all of the fires had the additional hazard of live power lines running through the fire area that firefighters needed to operate in. This gallery features photos from grass fires that occured in the response areas of the Dansville, Delhi Township, Leslie, Mason and Rives-Tompkins fire departments.
