3/4/17 - Dansville barn fire, 3024 E. Howell Rd

The Dansville Fire Department responded to a barn fire at 3024 E. Howell Rd just before 2 PM on Saturday, March 4, 2017. A MABAS box alarm sent the Dansville, NIESA-Leroy and NIESA-Williamston fire departments to the scene. A smoke plume was visible from many miles away, command requested additional tankers and manpower from the Mason and Stockbridge (SAESA) fire departments. The barn had already collapsed when firefighters arrived, but there were additional barns that were exposure concerns. Firefighters extinguished the fire in a defensive attack. As personnel continued to man protective hoselines, excavation equipment was brought in to break up and move the many bales of smoldering straw that were inside.
