1/31/17 - Williamston industrial garage fire, 3444 Corwin Rd
On Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017, a MABAS box alarm was dispatched for an industrial building fire at 3444 Corwin Rd in Williamston. The NIESA-Williamston, NIESA-Leroy and Meridian Twp fire departments were initially dispatched on the run, Meridian Twp would be delayed due to having all manpower committed on medical calls, so the Williamston chief requested an engine and manpower from Dansville instead. On arrival, command reported a working fire in a vacant industrial garage building at the end of a long drive with fire through the roof. An additional tanker was requested to respond from LSW (Laingsburg). Firefighters set up master streams for a defensive attack. They made an attempt to stop the fire's progress into an attached building, but soon part of that structure's roof started collapsing as well. Personnel had to avoid contact with the perimeter fencing due to fears it may be energized from a downed electrical line. When Meridian Twp arrived they established a tanker fill site from a hydrant out at the road. Excavation equipment was called in to knock down the remainder of the building that was a safety hazard. Firefighters continued to work through most of the day to knock down hot spots and complete extinguishment. No one was injured.
