10/1/17 - Mason house fire, 2411 Gale Rd
At 10:41 PM on Sunday, October 1st, the Mason, Onondaga and Leslie fire departments were dispatched to a house fire at 2411 Gale Rd. The call came from residents advising everyone was out of the home. Onondaga command was first to arrive on scene, reporting a heavily involved two story home at the end of a long driveway. All personnel were advised this would initially be a defensive fire. Onondaga Engine 1261 was first to arrive, approaching from the "A" side and pulling preconnect lines to begin knocking down the flames. Mason Engine 809 came in a driveway that went around to the "C" side, they used a blitz attack with their deck gun, then pulled handlines for fire attack. Command requested additional tankers and manpower from the Eaton Rapids and Eaton Rapids Township fire departments. Approximately 1400 feet of supply hose was required due to the distance the house was from the road. Porta-tanks were set up at the road for the tankers to fill, Onondaga Tanker 1262 remained at the tanks and pumped from the tanks to Mason Engine 806 part way up the driveway. Engine 806 relay pumped to Engine 1261 which supplied Engine 809 with water in addition to their own handlines. Once the fire was knocked down, crews were able to enter what remained of the home to complete extinguishment. Medical rehab was provided by Eaton Area EMS, on scene air tank refills were done by the Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad. The Mason Fire Corp provided water and refreshments.
