1/22/16 - Delhi Twp house fire, 1746 S. Waverly

The Delhi Township Fire Department was dispatched to a possible attic fire at 1746 S. Waverly Rd on Friday, January 22, 2016, just after 9 PM. Automatic aid was dispatched from the Windsor Township Fire Department on the original call reporting smoke in the house. When the call was updated to fire showing, command requested a mutual aid engine from the Lansing Fire Department and activation of the west side Tanker Task Force. On arrival, command reported a two story home with heavy smoke from the roof. Additional mutual aid was requested for manpower from the Mason Fire Department. Crews from Delhi Township and Lansing made attempts to attack the fire from the interior, but due to hoarder conditions inside, they were unable to find access to the 2nd floor in the rear wing of the home to stop the firespread. Command eventually pulled all crews out and switched to a defensive attack. Tankers from Mason, Leslie, Onondaga, Hamlin Township, Eaton Rapids, Eaton Rapids Township and Windsor Township assisted Delhi's tanker with shuttling water in from a hydrant a mile north of the scene. Meridian Township Fire Department provided an engine at the fill site to supply the tankers. Command made a special request for their aerial ladder to respond to set up a water tower operation which quickly knocked down the visible fire in the roof that handlines on the ground could not reach. It took several hours to knock down the blaze and then hours longer to overhaul and check for hot spots. No firefighters were injured.
