11/7/16 - Lansing multiple injury vehicle crash, Cedar & Miller
On Monday night, November 7, 2016, a multiple vehicle crash involving a Lansing Fire Department ambulance occured at the intersection of Cedar & Miller. While transporting a priority patient to an area hospital, using their lights and siren, a dark sedan failed to yield at a flashing red signal and pulled in front of the ambulance. The resulting collision forced both vehicles into two lanes of cars that had stopped while waiting for the approaching ambulance. Medic 49 radioed they had been involved in a crash at 6:19 PM, they requested an extrication assignment and 5 additional ambulances while they started to assess the occupants of all the vehicles involved. Lansing Fire Department Engine 44, Engine 46, Engine 49, Truck 44, Medic 41, Medic 46 and Battalion 41 responded along with mutual aid ambulances from Delhi Township, Lansing Township and Meridian Township fire departments. All patients were able to self extricate and were not seriously injured. A total of six patients were transported to the hospital from this crash, including all four occupants that were in Medic 49. Three others involved refused EMS services at the scene. An accident reconstruction team was called in to investigate the crash.
