2/27/15 - Rives-Tompkins Twp house fire, 1950 Henry Rd
At 12:47 PM on Friday, February 27, 2015, the Rives-Tompkins Twp Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire call that was the start of day long battle with a stubborn fire fought by even more determined firefighters. Initial dispatch information was from residents reporting a suspected fire in the wall of the home. First arriving personnel reported smoke coming from the eaves of the two story, balloon frame farmhouse. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack chasing the fire up and down walls and through several attic spaces. Complicating matters was the metal roof on the home which made ventilation efforts very difficult. Command made requests for mutual aid manpower from two counties and then started calling even more tankers as well when the decision was made to go defensive due to deteriorating roof conditions. In all mutual aid requested from Jackson Co included Blackman-Leoni, Henrietta, Springport-Clarence, Parma-Sandstone, & Grass Lake. Departments from Ingham Co that responded were Leslie, Onondaga, Stockbridge (SAESA), Mason, Dansville & the Ingham Co Sheriff Rescue air unit. Personnel spent approximately 6 hours battling this initial attack on the fire, there were no injuries reported.
