2/18/15 - Mason house fire, 5612 Plains Rd
The Mason Fire Department responded to a house fire at 5612 Plains Rd, early in the morning of Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Dispatched at 0026 Hrs, command requested mutual aid for a full assist from the Onondaga & Eaton Rapids Township fire departments as soon as they were responding. The first arriving chief reported fire on the first and second floors of a two story farmhouse. After confirming all occupants were out of the house, command advised it would be a defensive attack. Additional mutual aid was requested from the Eaton Rapids City & Hamlin Township fire departments for tankers & manpower. Firefighters pulled lines from first due Engine 809 as well as second arriving Onondaga Engine 1261, surrounding the house to knock down visible fire. When firefighters were able to go inside it was discovered the stairway to the second floor had burned through so all access would have to be from the outside. Firefighters were on scene for approximately 4 hours, working in single digit temperatures to expose smoldering spots and make sure the fire was extinguished. Eaton Area Ambulance provided EMS standby. There were no reported injuries.
