2/1/15 - Mason extrication, US-127 near Harper Rd
Traveling in the midst of a winter storm warning, with snow and wind dropping approximately 12 inches of accumulation in the area, a car driving north on US-127 ran into the back of a semi truck that had stopped along the shoulder of the highway for emergency vehicle maintenance. The Lansing-Mason Ambulance Service was dispatched just before 3 PM on Sunday, February 1, 2015. With no available units due to simultaneous runs, mutual aid was requested from the Delhi Twp Fire Department to send an ambulance. When dispatch received information that a person was pinned, the Mason Fire Department and Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad were also dispatched. On arrival, command requested that the northbound lanes be closed to traffic due to extremely reduced visibility creating a hazard to responders working the scene. All of the responding agencies worked together as one team to help extricate the driver of the sedan, who miraculously received non life threatening injuries and was able to assist with his extrication. Shortly after the vehicles were separated, the truck was allowed to proceed on his way and the highway was reopened.
