1/1/15 - Eaton Rapids house fire, 106 King St
At 6:52 AM on Thursday, January 1, 2015, the Eaton Rapids Fire Department handled their first structure fire in the new year. The Eaton Rapids Township and Hamlin Township fire departments were dispatched on automatic aid with Eaton Rapids to a reported house fire at 106 King St. First arriving command arrived to a two story home with fire showing from the B-C corner. A garage with an apartment above was a direct exposure, separated from the involved residence by approximately 10 feet. First arriving Engine 511 and Tanker 1215 each pulled preconnect lines to attack the fire and protect the exposure, with each apparatus supplied by separate hydrants. Fire extended into the attic and void spaces making extinguishment difficult, command requested additional mutual aid for a crew from the Charlotte Fire Department. The fast response and initial knockdown by the crews kept the fire from extending to the adjacent structure. No injuries were reported.
