A live burn exercise was conducted by the Michigan State Police at 840 Gale Rd on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. The purpose of the exercise was to create and extinguish several fire sets for students in the MSP fire investigation school to dig the following day. Local firefighters were called upon to assist with the fire control. The Mason Fire Department was joined by firefighters from the Delhi Township Fire Department and a class of new recruits from the Lansing Fire Department to take advantage of the training opportunity. With the expertise of the MSP Bomb Squad, several sets were ignited simultaneously and allowed to burn for a short time before firefighters entered to extinguish and overhaul. Two different scenarios were conducted, with fires ignited on the first floor and then the second floor of the home. The west side of the Ingham County Tanker Task Force provided water supply with tankers from the Delhi Township, Eaton Rapids Township, Leslie, Mason, Onondaga and Windsor Township fire departments.
