5/7/13 - Dansville mock crash, Dansville High School
The Dansville Fire Department, with help from some Dansville High School drama students, conducted a mock crash scenario for Dansville High School students on Tuesday afternoon, May 7, 2013. The exercise is meant to demonstrate the dangers of distracted driving and driving while impaired. It traditionally is conducted close to prom to keep this lesson fresh during prom festivities. In this "crash", two vehicles collided in a broadside collision. Each car had five patients, one patient was fatally injured when she was ejected through the windshield. Extrication is required for both cars. An additional truck load of friends arrives on scene shortly before responders and react to what they see. Both drivers have minor injuries, one is arrested for intoxicated driving and the other is arrested for texting while driving. Other agencies participating in this exercise were the Michigan State Police, the Lansing-Mason Area Ambulance Service, SAESA Ambulance and the Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad.
