5/14/13 - Lansing condominium fire, 3922 Hunters Ridge #1
The Lansing Fire Department responded to a condominium fire at 3922 Hunters Ridge on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Engines 44, 46, 49, Truck 41 & 49, Medic 46 and Battalion 41 were dispatched just before 8:30 AM to the fire reported by neighbors. Engine 46 reported heavy smoke showing while approaching the neighborhood and the Battalion Chief requested an additional engine company (Eng 41) to assist. A one story condominium unit attached to a 2 story multi unit showed signs of heavy involvement on arrival. Firefighters made quick entry and had most of the fire knocked down with the structure ventilated when they discovered an uncontrolled natural gas leak at the "C" side of the structure. Command made an urgent call for Consumers Energy to respond in order to shut off the gas, removed all firefighters from the structure and evacuated neighboring units. Firefighters took a protected position until utility officials were able to access the gas line and stop the flow. Personnel were then able to attack the fire again. The unit of origin was destroyed by the fire with damage to the two story exposure building limited primarily to the adjoining wall. There were no injuries.
